Major urban centers and nature are two things that don't usually go together. Generally when luxury homes in London, Ontario move in, nature moves out - permanently. But the city of Halifax, Nova Scotia is different. Halagonians decided right from the start that theirs was not going to be a sterile, treeless city. There are plenty of trees and parks and beaches in modern Halifax to keep nature enthusiasts amused on their vacations. If you're in Halifax, why not consider going on a nature tour? Here are four of our favorite trips.
Ocean Tours
There's lots to see out on the ocean. A & M Sea Charters leaves right from the government wharf downtown and can take a dentist in Woodbridge, Ontario on a fun adventure that could include deep sea fishing, a harbor tour, or whale watching. You can also choose Murphy's Nature and Whale Watching Cruises and see such fascinating creatures as pilot whales and white sided dolphins.
McNab's Island
McNab's Island is a neat nature preserve located right in the middle of the harbor between Halifax and Dartmouth. With a minimum of effort, North York real estate agents can find themselves exploring it. The McNab's Island Ferry does guided history and nature tours that involve hiking, camping, and seal watching and they go year round. Taylor Made Tours also rents bicycles and lets you go on your own adventure on McNab's or Devil's Islands.
Hiking Trips
Nature safaris aren't limited to Africa. There's plenty of nature to be seen in Halifax, so you can take a walking tour complete with lodging and dining from Atlantic Canada Nature Safaris any time between May and October. It's a great escape from working for a chiropractor in Toronto. Great Earth Adventures also does single or multi day guided hiking tours to natural wonders like waterfalls and beaches, and Scott Walking Adventures offers a women-only culture and nature tour for women traveling alone.
Outdoor Sports
If you spend all your days sitting at a computer selling Rosedale real estate, it's time to get out and have a little fun. If you go with Into the Wilderness Expeditions, you could find yourself kayaking, horseback riding, or sailing and seeing the area's fascinating wildlife and fossils. Nova Shores Adventures also does single and half day kayaking tours down to Peggy's Cove and the archipelago and Sea Sun Island Kayak Adventures goes to the Indian Islands.
