Are You Ready To Downsize

Sometimes, when you've just been through a life change, you might find that your living situation is no longer appropriate for your needs. Perhaps your children have all grown up and gone away, or maybe you just got a divorce and you need can't afford your house anymore. In this case, it may be time to downsize to a smaller home or perhaps a unit of Avoca Condos. If you're a Halifax property owner and this situation sounds familiar to you, here are some tips and advice on downsizing your living space.

The first thing you've got to ask yourself is whether it's really appropriate to give up your home. If your children are going to want to come home during the holidays and in the summer, giving up the house that's big enough to fit them all is tantamount to telling them you don't want them to come. Instead of downgrading to Oakville condos, you can fill the void in the home and in your pocketbook easily by taking on boarders or hosting international students.

If you're really sure your home is too big and too expensive for you now, then it's time to figure out exactly how much living space you need from your new home. You don't want to choose a condominium in downtown Toronto that's too small, especially when you're used to a big house. Consider your habits and figure out which rooms or portions of rooms you use. Add the square footage of these rooms together and you should get a rough estimate of how much living space you'll need. You can give that figure to your realtor or keep it in mind when looking at the listings yourself.

You'll also want to consider what sort of situation you want to be in after the move. If you live in a quiet residential area now, think about whether you would like to live in a faster paced neighborhood or not. This will help you narrow down the areas to search when you go out looking at Toronto condos. If you're also downsizing your car, you'll want easy access to pubic transportation or a central location that will make it easy for you to walk wherever you need to go.

If it's the maintenance of the home that's really getting you down, a London, Ontario townhouse probably isn't the best choice for you. You'll want to pick a condo complex, assisted living facility, or seniors development where things are maintained for you.
